We're thinking of taking a road trip to Taos, NM next weekend. Does anyone have a recommendation for a great place to stay? There are 2 adults and 3 children. Since it's a bit over 200 miles, we figure it would be best to spend the night.

Thanks!

Taos is only about 120 miles from RR. It is an easy day trip. I stay at this place when I have to work in the area. I can have a meal and a couple of drinks without having to leave the place. Don Fernando de Taos Hotel & Suites in Taos, New Mexico

Yeah, Don Fernando is great, as is the Sagebrush. Try also Taos Getaway. Vacation Rentals, Caretaking & Property Management in Taos, New Mexico unless you want to eat out all the time you are here! And another great site is ..VRBO® is Vacation Rentals by Owner® Vacation Homes Rentals by Owner (http://www.vrbo.com - broken link). I am not affiliated with either place (although I am friends with the proprietor of taosgetaway) , just think they are great resources for folks to check out.

Not sure if this qualifies, but, the first time we visited Taos, we ate here:

taosdining.com guide to Taos restaurants, eateries, bars - Taos Pizza Out Back (http://www.taosdining.com/content/view/19/3/ - broken link)

It was great!

When my Mother in law visited in October, we did the 'circle' and had lunch at the 'Apple Tree' in Taos. It was very good, although I'm not sure if they have beer and wine, but I think they do. Burgers, salad, chile and Mom had soup - all was awesome. Plus it's got great character.

Eske's Brew Pub is the local Micro Brewery. Orlando's right outside of town has excellent "New Mexican" food.

I second Orlando's. The food is excellent. It's fun to sit outside.

Michael's is supposed to be the best place in town for breakfast. We ate there at lunch and enjoyed it.

We ended up at the Ranchos de Taos grill by the St. Francis of Asis Church outside of town one night. We really enjoyed that too.

The Cantina in the alley off the main plaza was pretty good too. I haven't eaten there for a couple of years.

I heard the Apple Tree might be for sale so you would need to check and see if it's still open.

I don't remember the name of the Mexican place, some hole in the wall type place but they had the best food. In other words, they make burritos the correct way like I make them.
If this rings a bell with anyone, please post that restaurant too.
