Now that this thread has been dredged up again,

After navigating both Albuquerque and Las Cruces, I have to conclude that Albuquerque has better traffic. The freeways are not only useful to/from Albuquerque but also within Albuquerque, whereas Las Cruces' freeways offer less in terms of shortcuts.

I-25 & Lohman (Exit 3) can put any interchange in Albuquerque to shame in terms of constant congestion.

As an added bonus I can carry my @#$@#$% lunchbox anywhere I like in Albuquerque.

It's still busy, but, much, much better now that it's been widened and extra turn lanes added.
I'll take LC over ABQ traffic-wise any and every day. One poorly designed intersection in LC cannot compare to the sheer volume of non-stop traffic in ABQ day and night.

ME TOO! And I don't live in either city so I'm a "neutral" observer with no bias against either place. Las Cruces still has the feel of a large town vs that of a mid-size city, IMO.
