Ours showed up early last week. Put the feeders out on Friday and they are happily buzzing around. First time I've seen a Rufus Hummingbird, very pretty. Hoping the hawks leave them alone.
Just saw one in Ruidoso this morning. We moved recently and don't have a feeder up. It was probably checking out the flowers on the lilac bush... making it easy prey for the cat...
Made a pass by the window so out comes the feeder and he/she makes a quick drink and takes off.
Guess it is a scout and if he/she doesn't return south then the others will head this way.
I had said we would see the 1st on the 5the of May...
Interesting. Here in the Seattle area we have hummingbirds all year. I only recently learned they migrate, to maybe explain why less visited the feeder in the winter. The ones here don't seem to hum as loud as ones in the SW.
So far, we have 2 here in Putnam county, or at least at our house. Matter of fact, I had to catch and release one that got into our garage a while back, and couldn't get out. Don't understand why it went in there. When I held it in my hand it felt like its heart was going full throttle. It laid in my open palm, till it finally came around. Then it shot to the top of one of our tall, tall, Tennesse trees, and disappeared. But it was back for some more sweet water the next day.
