Hey so first of all, I am a 20 something year old single female. I am applying for different jobs and few are in New Orleans one near the french quarter. I have been trying to look at areas and apartments a head of time, just to have an idea.

My job is in childcare, so I'm sure my starting pay is not going to be a lot and was looking at apartments from 550 to 650 a month. I saw something in mid-city but not sure if that's a safe area or not. Hoping to find a safe place, near a trolley transit. Any ideas?

Give us addresses so we can help. Or at least the block if you're not comfortable giving the exact address.

We have streetcars, not trolleys.

It's going to be tough to stay in a decent area at that price point. $800 would be more like it for a nice 1br.

That price range will make it hard to find an apartment in a decent area of the city. But you probably could find something in the 650-700 range if you look. Mid City is a good spot to check out. You could also check out Metairie where the prices are probably a little cheaper. That apartment in Mid City will depend on the exact area since Mid City has good and bad areas.

Oops I meant Streetcars! :-/

I figured it would be hard to find a decent place to live on that budget and I honestly don't know what my starting pay will be yet if I get the job...just kind of aiming low right now.

The apartments I saw in Mid City (or at least that's what the website said...) Are these Falstaff Apartments

Address of the apartments are 2600 Gravier Street
New Orleans, LA 70119 Do you know if that's a safe area or not?

Thanks for y'alls help!

Would steer clear of there.

You'll have better luck with your budget finding an apt that is part of a house rather than a complex. "Shotgun" style houses are very common in this area.

Isn't that area bound to take off once the hospitals begin to open up?

Yeah, but she's looking to rent. That's right across from the Criminal Court building, it may take awhile for it to be up to snuff.

I was looking at the complex for a while. I would take his advice and try and look outside of the apartment complexes.
