Hi everyone,

I'm moving to NOLA at the end of the year and am looking for a place to live about 20 minutes or less drive from the main Oschner hospital on Jefferson Highway. I have been looking to rent a room at this address: 1252 Carrollton Ave, Metairie, LA 70005 but according to a crime map app, it says that it is a high crime area. I was hoping someone could give me some advice.

Also, could I get some advice what areas to look at with low crime?

Thanks!!

Try Old Jefferson or Elmwood. There are a few nice apartment complexes in Elmwood. The zip code for those areas is 70121.

Hey,
I'm getting a divorce and want a new start, thinking about moving to New Orleans. How are you doing? How has your experience been? I currently live in Maryland and I can only get so much from the internet.

Thanks and hope all is going well.

Little late, but for those with similar question. Try Harahan, or River Ridge area.

Agreed about Elmwood, Harahan and River Ridge areas - they've always seemed very safe, and there are plenty of shops, restaurants and things to do nearby. Plus Earhart Expressway and Jefferson Highway make it easy to get into New Orleans. As yr5 mentioned, 1st Lake Properties does have a ton of apartment properties in the River Ridge area:

NOPD provides a really useful crime map for Orleans Parish:

(I use it all of the time when scouting out places - we're looking to buy in the next year or two), but it looks like there's only a similar 3rd-party site for Jefferson Parish:
