Hi,
Is it common for Landlords to do monthly home inpsections in the NOLA area?
My wife and I were thinking of renting this house, but we managed to talk to some next door neighbors who informed us that the last tenants left due to montly home inpsections where the Landlords would search the attic, open their stove, enter the bathrooms and closets. We asked the Landlord about this and he said that this is common in New Orleans and surrounding suburbs. We had never heard of this, but we have been apartment dwellers snce moving here a year ago...Is this really common as the Landlord says? And every month too?...Sounds weird to me....

I have been renting in the same apartment for 5 years and I haven't seen my landlord since the day I moved in.

Oops. Just noticed you were asking about a house. Not sure about that.

While in may not be common, it is not illegal.

It's intrusive and I wouldn't stand for it . Find somewhere else to live .

If it were me, I would look elsewhere. Sounds like they're looking for a reason to kick you out and keep the deposit.

I've lived in New Orleans many years, although I haven't rented since 1999. Never heard of such a thing here or anywhere else. I wouldn't rent under that kind of monitoring, but at least he told you. I did have a landlord come in unannounced once when I wasn't home, and I was very upset at the invasion of privacy. At the very least, if you love the place and the neighborhood, would he give you a few days' notice?

I get the feeling he only told me because he knew I had already found out...I think we will pass...Does not seem worth it to us...Thanks a lot for your reply!
