Honestly, I kind of like it like it is too. It's a nice quiet place to relax and watch the sailboats and pelicans. I don't go there often, but when I do, I always wonder why I don't spend more time there.
kinda like west end used to be with Brunnings, Jaegars, Bart's -- and all of the other spots that were out there?

I think the heyday of the lakefront was way before I moved down here. I've heard people talk about Pontchartrain Beach. If only I had a time machine. Occasionally one of the local tv stations has some hour long New Orleans history programs. I'm fascinated by that stuff.

I haven't heard that, but it would be awesome if it happened. I wonder whatever happened with that music venue the guys from Tipitina' s were talking about putting out there a couple years ago? I haven't heard anything else about it.

There won't be any building boom. The only reason New Orleans boomed from 2005 until 2013 or so was government money from Katrina. That's over and New Orleans is back to its old crime ridden ways.

They could have done something meaningful with the money but they didn't.

I'm not sure where you're getting your info over there in Texas, but I'm out and about every day, and I've never seen this amount of construction going on in this city. Not necessarily new buildings, although there are many of those too, but a lot of old buildings being converted to condos or apartments. I see construction workers everywhere down here.

Okeefe and Girod, South Market, there are 3 new buildings, and more to be built. Okeefe and Common, there are high rises that are being remodeled on at least 2 corners. Rampart at Bienville, a huge new hotel being built across the street from the new Iberville which has built at least 10 or 15 new buildings in the last couple years, and will be building for the next couple years. A 8 or 10 story condo building on the corner of Notre dame and Tchoupitoulas. The new offices for the Advocate in the 800 block of St Charles. A new luxury hotel in the 600 block of Carondolet. Several new projects on Tulane by the new hospital. A new building on Lee Circle (condos I think). The World Trade Center is coming up. That's off the top of my head. I honestly could go on and on. That is just a handful of the projects going on here. I don't know what is considered a boom, but we are definitely close.

Yes I know about these projects, these were approved a while back.

The new projects like the WTC redevelopment to 4 Seasons, Cafe Habana, etc... are stalled.

Any movement in the positive direction is blocked by litigation and yet crime still continues.

It could be like Kemah in Houston and Lake P is prettier. Condos are needed in East New Orleans. They can also build some condos that emulate the French Quarter on the river near Tulane and some near the old wharves.

What do you mean rich people won't let it happen, do they own the land?

Add 200 more policemen and put substation in high crime areas

I respect your opinion here, and your posts are usually very informative, but I can't share your negative outlook because I live here and love this city. I'm not saying you're wrong about the crime, but I hope for better days, and believe they are coming. I've lived in several other cities, and this is the one that fits me. There is crime in every city. The industry I'm in, as long as the economy is good, I can go anywhere and live well. This is the city I choose. There is nowhere else that compares for me.
