Does anyone know what happens when you get into this particular building and your income goes DOWN once you've moved in? Does rent go down as well, according to section 8 rules? I'm new at this. Thanks!
Anybody know if this will this be open to applicants outside of community board? Non-artists?
I can't open the PDFs of the two lotteries, but on those should be all the qualifications needed for each one. Manhattan Plaza has at least four separate programs, with different requirements.
If anyone could open the PDFs, could you please post photos? Thanks!

It’s complex situation at Manhattan Plaza for eligibility. Scrutinized each lottery notice when it goes live. There have been different eligibility in different lotteries. In the past, CB4 residency was needed as they seek to fulfill a certain % within the building.
There are income requirements. This present lottery’s asks for professional performing artist residing in US. It’s an inclusive definition of what artist is. But, half or more of income must come from arts employment and must be for the past three years. That likely means this must be so at the time an offer of a unit is made. Are they strict? I don’t know.
Hasty Copy & Paste:
MANHATTAN PLAZA OCCUPANCY STANDARDS: Studio- One or Two Persons. One Bedroom- Two or Three persons
PROFESSIONAL PERFORMING ARTISTS LIVING ANYWHERE IN U.S. earning 50% or more of their income for the past 3 consecutive years from Performing Arts work are eligible to apply under the Performing Artist Category.
Under these guidelines, a performing artist is any of the creative collaborators of the varying performing arts media: theatre, television, film and radio entertainment. In addition to actors, dancers, comedians, musicians and singers, the concept of performing artists also includes ushers, directors, choreographers, voice overs, writers (of plays, screenplays, television and radio entertainment), designers (set, costumes, and lights), composers and motion picture screen cartoonists.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: (FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH ANY OF THE FOLLOWING WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION)
• Applications are not transferable.
• Applicants must be financially responsible.
• PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO DOCUMENTED VETERANS SELECTED IN THE LOTTERY.
• Only Performing Artists are eligible for this lottery; those who do not meet the Professional Performing Artists standards for
three consecutive years will be disqualified.
• Any applicant that does not have the proper family composition will automatically be disqualified.
• Applicants can only be on one waiting list at a development. If applicants have the right family composition, they can apply to more than one lottery. However, if they are selected for more than one lottery, they will have to choose which waiting list they prefer.
• ONE REQUEST ONLY PER APPLICANT. Any applicant placing a duplicate request will not be entered into the lottery.
An applicant can only submit a paper entry or an on-line entry. If applicants enter on-line and also mail in a letter or postcard, they have submitted a duplicate request and will not be eligible for the lottery.
• An applicant whose name is selected in a lottery cannot be included in the family composition of any other applicant who is selected in the same lottery for that particular housing company development. Failure to comply will result in the disqualification
of both applicants.

This takes preference to a whole different level.

Manhattan Plaza has an interesting history. It is famous for housing performing artists who go on to become stars. Alicia Keys and her Mom lived there and Ms. Keys has a Broadway Play opening soon that features the building.
