Dozens of New York City Housing Authority employees were hauled away in handcuffs as part of a large-scale raid Tuesday morning, The Post has learned.
More than 50 employees were expected to be arrested in connection to the probe, which involved the city Department of Investigation and Homeland Security Investigations, sources briefed on the matter told The Post.
Yep, at about half of the projects. In trying to give local administrators the power to quickly hire maintenance people to come in and do smaller, urgent jobs without going through the (undoubtedly very unwieldy!) formal procurement process, they seem to have opened up opportunities for shady MFs to demand kickbacks.
Considering the financial problems the projects have struggled with that have led to substandard living conditions, it's a real disgrace. Though I imagine this happens with other developers and management companies, we just don't hear about it.
