My husband and I want to take our son to see the Macy's fireworks. Has anyone gone into NYC for the viewing? What's your advice? Are there fireworks at Liberty State Park? What do you suggest with a 5-yr old? (I understand there are no bathroom spots once you reach the FDR.)

Yep, there is actually three fireworks show in NJ. Hudson County, Meadowlands, and Liberty State Park. If you're going Liberty, I suggest taking the light rail since traffic will be congested.

Macys fireworks is the same story but twice more crowded. Besides the FDR or seaport, you can also go to Astoria Park or Gantry Park in Long Island City in Queens to watch the fireworks, but you got to be there early. It's right up by the water. For Astoria, I suggest to park near Steinway. They don't let any cars in the area after 3pm.

Any specific spot in Maspeth, Queens? It's my first time here, and I was told you can see them from here. Maybe one of the cemetaries?

Yup, I forgot about Maspeth. Around the cemeteries, you'll get a great view. And at Grand Avenue and 69th Street (just off the LIE) is prime. It's not as close as LIC or Astoria, but it's a good view, less crowded, and a neighborhood tradition to gather there.
