I was on a train one morning when a panhandler came through the car, doing his regular shtick. A woman sitting across the way from me offered him an apple. You should've seen the look he gave her--nothing could have been more condescending. Evidently, he wasn't so badly off that he needed something to eat!

Yeah, I'll never forget the time I walked by a homeless guy with a sign that said something to the effect of, "Homeless & Hungry, Please Help," and offered him a deli sandwich that I had literally just bought.

Never again.

You should have ducked in the store, bought the baby formula, cracked it open (so he can't return it), and hand it to him. I would NEVER give someone $18. Are you kidding me??!??! That dude ran from you to the dope man.

My favorite panhandler story (if we could get back on topic), concerns the guy on a #1 train who was pretending to be blind. As he made his way through the car, a young boy suddenly gave him the finger--a gesture that he automatically returned.

It took him half a second to realize that he'd just blown his cover. And everyone else in the car sat there smirking at him.
