Everything we give back to get a contract is substantial savings to the city , and we have been doing it for going on about 10 years. The last 2 contracts were funded by cost saving initiatives from the union as dictated in collective bargaining with the city , and not as you believe the taxpayer. Your so good at looking things up there are plenty of articles of the manpower ,work load ,and time we have given up to get pay hikes.

City Settles New Contract For Sanitation

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg announced a 17 percent raise yesterday for the city's 6,600 sanitation workers as part of a 51-month deal that includes what he called an important productivity breakthrough: the one-person garbage truck.
The tentative contract would give the Uniformed Sanitationmen's Association the largest raise won by any municipal union in the current round of bargaining, partly because it is longer than most of the other contracts. The sanitation workers' raise is even higher than the teachers' 15 percent pay increase over a similar period.

Pattern-conforming Collective Bargaining Agreement Covers 50-Month Period
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Peter Gorman, President of the Uniformed Fire Officers Association (UFOA), today announced that a tentative contract settlement has been reached on a collective bargaining agreement covering the 50-month, 19-day period from January 1, 2003 through March 19, 2007 . The agreement includes a more than 17% wage increase and a modified salary structure for certain employees promoted on or after March 1, 2006 .

"The American people's money must be spent to advance their priorities, not to line the pockets of contractors," said President Barack Obama, as he ordered new guidelines last year to bring federal contracting under control.

"We will stop outsourcing services that should be performed by the government," he said, pointing out that spending on private contracts doubled to more than $500 billion a year under former President Bush.

The Washington Post recently reported that a highway design firm charged the public for lavish perks, exorbitant executive pay and other unallowable expenses to the tune of $73 million. A report from the U.S. Dept. of Transportation showed contractors billing the government for sporting events, luxury cars and golf shirts.

Here is an NYPD 1 sounds like giving back to me




The principal features of this award include:

- A new salary schedule for new hires that provides an enhanced hiring rate for time in the Police Academy. The new starting salary will be $35,881 for the next class entering the Academy.

- 4.5% increase on August 1, 2004, the first day of the contract, and another
5% increase, compounded, on August 1, 2005, the first day of the 13th month of the contract.

The salary schedule for Police Officers newly hired on or after 1/1/2006 will be modified as follows:
Current 1/1/2006
After 5.5 years $59,588 $65,382
After 4.5 years $44,100 $48,389
After 3.5 years $41,500 $45,536
After 2.5 years $38,000 $41,696
After 1.5 years $34,000 $37,307
After 6 months $32,700 $35,881
Academy rate $25,100 $35,881

The salary schedule for Police Officers hired prior to 1/1/2006 will be as follows:

6th year $59,588 $62,269 $65,382
5th year $47,526 $49,665 $52,148
4th year $46,240 $48,321 $50,737
3rd year $44,145 $46,132 $48,439
2nd year $42,648 $44,567 $46,795

The award contains important givebacks and productivity savings of 2.81% that will provide significant funding sources to offset the costs of these increases going forward. They include the following items:

- Reduction of ten (10) annual leave days for new hires for each of the first five (5) years of employment. New recruits will receive 10 annual leave days in addition to their 18 chart days off.

- Modifying the current six (6) named rescheduling days for all employees without the payment of overtime in accordance with Detective Rules which provides for greater flexibility in scheduling and will save the City overtime.

- Range Day (firearms qualification) to be held on an annual leave day for all employees which means each police officer will work one more day in their assignment.

- Five (5) additional rescheduling days for all employees without the payment of pre-tour or post-tour overtime upon 24-hours notice to the employee. Presently, the Police Department has the right to reschedule employees on fifteen (15) such occasions. Going forward, twenty (20) such opportunities will be available for use by the Police Department. Rescheduling days allow the Police Department optimal flexibility to assign employees without the payment of overtime.

Larger raises = larger pensions, so not sure how in the long run this is a cost savings for the city...

lol typical spin it whatever way you want. This sounds what you want .... From this point foward all civil service titles will have a max salary of 50,000 because they are uneducated morons who dont deserve to lick my boot. Breaks and lunch periods will be hereby revoked , and ot will be paid after th 60 hour worked. They should also work till they are 67 because who wouldnt want a Fireman in a hover-round or a cop who uses a cane instead of a baton or a Sanman who picks up 3 tons a day instead of 11. They should then contribute whatever they can scrounge from their low salary after paying 1300 dollars a month for a 1 bedroom that they share with their kids into a 401k , and retire in a section 8 building on non existent social security and 400 dollars a month from their retirement plan. Sound about right ? And all the contracts that are in effect have givebacks as approved by Michael Bloomberg our BILLIONAIRE mayor . Somehow I think if he signed off somewhere the city is makin out dont you?

LOL. Imagine if everyone thought like the OP. It would be one mean unbalanced world. The odd thing is he says he has brothers who are cops. Do they realize he feels this way? Thanksgiving gatherings must be a real hoot
