I am originally from Newark, NJ.
I moved down south with my mom when I was about 1 and I have been living here all my life. I've come to the realization that I am not a southern person (no offense to anyone) I am a city person. I am looking for a change and have always been the type for the fast life, always having something to do everyday and I believe NY is just for me. I visit every chance I get because my father still lives in NJ and so when I visit him, I go to NY.
So I am asking everyone in the NY/NJ area about good colleges, that aren't too pricey, that I could attend to make my way to the city. I am using college as a tool to get there so I want to make it the best school I can afford. I will more than likely be getting loans and grants. If you guys could give me a look out I'd appreciate it.
I will be attending in the fall of this year! Thanks!
The schools that I know of n the area that have rolling admissions, and might still have some space if they want you, are St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn), Marymount Manhattan, Montclair State (NJ), Adelphi (Long Island), and the Columbia University School of General Studies. I'm not sure, but I beleive that Rutgers, at least at its Newark camous, also accepts late applications.
Unfortunately, if you need financial aid the deadline this year for almost everywhere has long passed.
Better idea: If you're a senior wait a year and apply for fall of 2012. Spend the next year making some money and doing your research about colleges here. Then you'll have a wider cohice of places to apply, not just those above. Make sure you have teacher recs and have taken any required tests like the SAT, and looked around for scholarships and filled out financial aid forms (FAFSA). Schools in metro New York are a lot more expensive than those down South. City University schools are cheap and some of them are quite good, but they generally don't have dorms so you have to arrange housing.
Just looked at Montclair State. Looks like a great school! Considering that school too. I will continue to do research on all these schools. Thank you guys for giving me a heads up on the financial aide and applicant acceptance for the Fall.
Keep the ideas coming. I am really enjoying the schools you guys are mentioning and appreciate the help!
Baruch College has a good business program and City College has a good Engineering program. Both are CUNYs. If you can get a scholarship, you can basically go for free or paid to attend them.
