I enjoy going to Carolines. Went to a few acts this year with a group of 6 and we had a good time. Food is alright if you stick the basic apps and drinks are the usual.

I work at a comedy club, and while I have no plans to mention which one, just want you to caution that they are VERY pricey, and there will be a cover charge plus a 2 drink minimum per person. In this context, that means alcoholic drinks (if you are under 21, or do not drink alcohol, most clubs have an unlimited non-alcoholic beverage option for around $20). Food usually will not count towards the minimum.

You can usually find ticket sales people in Times Sq, and other heavy tourist areas. Their tickets are legitimate, and are actually a really good deal (they save you a LOT of $$ on the cover charge).

I've worked in the industry for a long, long time, and so I am on the jaded side about the quality of shows. Most people don't see a lot of comedy, and so you'll have fun where ever you go, most likely. Just know the deal going in about cover charges/drink minimums, so you know what to expect. And CHECK DRINK PRICES before you order! It's really unfair to get pissed off at someone because you didn't look to see how much your drink cost. It's NYC. It's a comedy club. Drinks are SERIOUSLY expensive. Some clubs make up for this by making them really strong.

And of course, I implore you to tip your server. We bust our asses, and usually get a very low "shift pay" from the club (mine is only $20 on a weeknight, and $8 per show on a weekend). We rely almost 100% on tips.

Dangerfield's is fantastic. I go there from time to time and am never disappointed.

I liked Carolines the few times I've been there.

Comix was good but they (over)priced themselves right out of business.
