So wait. Can someone please clarify what "transplant" is?

From I've been able to gather they are
1.) mostly male
2.) in their early to mid twenties
3.) from Wisconsin or the mid-west
4.) white
5.) somehow financially well-off
6.) mysteriously hostile against how things work in New York
7.) flocking to specific "hip" neighborhoods they pay too much for
8.) involved in the arts
9.) all smokers
10.) enjoying a healthy amount of "PBR"
11.) exhibiting "weak" masculinity
12.) demanding changes in New York to accomodate them.
13.) mostly moving to New York in the past 5 years.

Is this picture remotely accurate?

All other demographics moving to the city are "native" approved "immigrants"? Is that correct also?

Please enlighten me, I have a little bit of trouble sorting out what all of you are actually talking about.

I don't label people as transplants, but if I had to it would be someone that moved here for reasons other than to escape economic, social/family troubles or obtained a new job/transfered. If I had to define a transplant, it is one person that moves here from another place in the US that doesn't really have a plan. They move to the city just to be here and occupy space. I don't confuse hispters and yuppies with transplants, as I do use the word hipster (though not yuppie.) In my eyes, someone that moves for college is not a transplant. Hopefully that makes sense lol.

Have been wondering about this myself......especially as a proud "transplant" who has been here for decades and lives in a decidedly unhip neighborhood in a decidedly unhip borough.
