It's OK but not great. In the W 100's it's still much better to be West of Broadway.

You must go and walk around late at night and judge for yourself.

A lot of people post questions about neighborhoods and safety. The area is pretty safe since you are living in the Upper West Side. You will have little to none shady characters at night. You have a lot of restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies etc. You have the A train Express on 103st Central Park West, the 1 train on 103 st Broadway.

The area is safe. Don't listen to a lot of these people, many who either don't live in the neighborhood or who have never even seen an unsafe neighborhood to comment on one. I've lived in some of the roughest neighborhoods in the country (obviously outside of New York) and in some very safe neighborhoods. 107th and Amsterdam is very safe. And statistically, you'd be living in the safest big city in the United States and in the safest borough within the safest big city. Obviously crime can happen anyway, but as long as you have your wits about you, you should have no problems for as long as you live there.
