Hello,

I have lived in the West Village for over 30 years and am very familiar with the East Village as well. I prefer the West Village, mainly because of the architecture. Most of it is a historic district with brownstones and charming streets. While the East Village has "character", a lot of housing stock is tenement. Secondly, transportation. In the West Village, you have access to the 6th Ave., 7th Ave. and 8th Ave. subway lines. In the East Village your closest subway line is the Lexington Ave. line which is the most congested. Third, the East Village is teeming with NYU students, which can be fun, but I prefer a neighborhood with more stability, i.e. mature residents. Well, there you have it. Both neighborhoods are safe and good. It's your call.

Galee

I just moved from the West Village after 15 plus years.
I lived right near Washington Square Park.
Mostly NYU kids....lots of em.
MANY MANY hipsters but not NEARLY as many as the East Village.
Parking stinks anywhere near the park---but that's the case all over.

There are still quite a few familes {originals} that live in the WV--thats kinda nice.
The food gets old fast---the EV has more to offer in that dept.

It's Manhattan living.
Depends on what you like to do---if your looking for peace and quiet--neither has it, but the WV IMHO might have some quieter spots.

University and 10th is a TERRIFIC area. Perfectly safe and very interesting.
That way without much trouble you can enjoy both the East AND West Village.

And you are not too far from subways at Union Square or Eight Street.

Perfect.
this is my ideal choice.
I just need to get approved from the co-op, and go in for an interview.
The broker already approved me, next step is this stupid co-op.

Thanks.
This application is a pain in ass, they ask for personal / professional refrences, stock broker name, CPA name, etc.
I guess its worth it, just time consuming.

Just looking for collborative thought....

There is 'THE Village', then there is East and West. Three relatively distinc areas with relatively definite boundaries, yes?

The Village generally is bounded by 7th Ave South to 3rd Ave/Bowery or 2nd Ave.

The WEST Village is bounded by 7th Ave South to the Highway.

The EAST Village from 2nd Ave or 3rd Ave/Bowery to ??? (Avenue A perhaps).

Avenue A and beyond is, varyingly, Alphabet City, LOISADA, the Lower Eastside, which is distinctly NOT the Village.

The above is how I have always known it to be. You have lived there long enough to know the history and nature of Greenwich Village.
