@ Manhattan girlz... why are you only looking for cheap options in the hoods of Bronx and manhattan... is proximity to manhattan that important to you...? there are dozens of areas in queens where you can find safe, cheap (albeit unfortunately for some...) boring places to live where it may take you awhile but you can definitely get to manhattan...

Mount Hope actually has some really, really nice blocks but they are in the midst of a not so nice area.It depends on your exact location and tolerance for the hoodiness around you. There are also some nice deco apartment buildings in that neighborhood, especially on The Grand concourse.

If you want a quiet area, check out areas like Bayside, Bellerose, Little Neck, Glen Oaks and Floral Park in suburban Queens.

Mount Hope is awful, every social problem imaginable is common. Only single urban pioneers should even consider. Has potential but only if the gentrification from Harlem/Wash Heights spreads.

what is Findlay Avenue between 169th and 170th street like these days? my grandparents lived there until the late 60's and i remember they were in a beige art deco bldg with a sunken living room. when i last saw it in 1977 the area was pretty much gone but i wonder has it gotten any getter? is this Mt Hope or Morrisania?
