Hi

Im looking to move to NY in a couple of months. I need a neighborhood I can call a good place to live, but most importantly to have a good time in. With my budget, I just may search for a roommate to give me more of that financial freedom.
I have my eyes on Astoria, Queens . What is the night life out in Astoria?

Im a 23 year old straight male looking for a place close for Bars + Night clubs with lots of single cute girls. Also it has to be a safe place and should be close to Manhattan if not in it already. So..what area has the best nightlife?

Is it true that in manhattan the landlords wont even look at you unless you show proof that you make 5 times more than what the actual apartment is going for?

I am from Miami BTW

SoHo or West Village if you want to live in Manhattan, which I recommend.

I live in West Village. My rent is a bit higher then $3,000, but I have something very modern that people love.

Both SoHo and West Village are very pricey - probably some of the highest rents in NYC. You get what you pay for though. If you had a budget of $3,000-$3,700 for 1br you will find more. If you want a roommate, you can get a great 2br for $7,000 but that depends if you want a roomate or not.

You are mainly going to go on dates / clubs in the city. Coming from Miami, no girl is going to want to take the subway back to Astoria after going out in the city. Sad but true. NYC girls are much different then Miami girls, though both tend to be pretentious.

Im 25 and enjoy the Village. You should consider it if you are coming from Miami and wnat to be close ot the action.

No thats beyond what I am capable of renting. I should clarify that I make at most $3,000 per month and that is what will cover all of my expenses including nightlife, which is why I may get a roommate.

RedPill,

if you are in party mode, stay in the city. After drinking , its going to suck to take the subway or cab back. The cost builds up there. Plus, girls hate it, sad but true. You are going to mostly party in the city. Understand, that NYC isn't cheap. Going out in the city, buying girls drinks, is going to build up quickly.

get a roomate. Don't look on Craigslist for a creeper though. Look at roommates.com, spareroom.com, or Roommates Wanted NYC I know plenty of people that used roommateswantednyc with great experience. They also have roomate bar events too that you can find on yelp.

Focus your efforts in Manhattan. SoHo and the Village are a good place to start. You might be able to find a nice 1br for $2,000 in the East Village. Just beware of the projects there. You can also get a nice 2br , although not big compared to places in Miami, for $3. Split that with a roomate and you are within budget.

Edit: i thought the budget for entire apartment was $2,500-$3k.

I barely drink anymore and I suppose I can get a part time. My revenue is passive income Ive built over the years on the internet, so its not like I would be doing much during the day.

True indeed. However Astoria too is becoming pricey with all these transient urbanites lope yourself who are flocking to that area of prime real estate so close to Manhattan. I can say Astoria has some nightlife but its mixed and mostly ethnic either catering to Latinos or Europeans which you maybe or you are not but what the heck have some fun. If I was you you should try to get an apartment in the east village, les, soho which have party venues
and easy places to meet chicks. Also check out Chelsea near club row for anything aswell.

If your total monthly income is $2,500-3,000 per month, you should update your post to reflect what you can afford to pay for rent.

If you're making $3,000 per month, you likely won't be able to spend more than $750 or so per month on rent. That could get you a room in some decent parts of Brooklyn, but expect to have at least two roommates. I would look off of the L train in Brooklyn to be relatively close to nightlife in both Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Does $3,000 a month suffice to pay for rent, living expenses--and partying????

Try Elmhurst. You can have Russian escorts delivered to your door every day. They cost about 120$ or so and you can find them on craigslist or backpage.

Im 100% serious. Dont waste your money on transplant trustfund stuck up douchebag manhattan people. Its really not all its cracked up to be.
