I think a lot of Americans still think of soccer as a game that children play at recess. Other parts of the world also consider volleyball a serious sport.
Soccerf really had an opportunity to take off here in the States when they held the World Cup here back in 1994. Soccer was on the verge of becoming a major sport in the US, and a lot of soccer fans were looking towards the World Cup as being the breakthrough event that would really put soccer on the map here. What blew it was, after all the qualifying rounds and do-or-die games, the final game went scoreless, and was decided simply by a penalty kick(!).
Getting back on topic - I shudder to think of the impact on traffic that this new arena will have on game days. There are no highways to the arena, and no improvements have been made to the surrounding streets. Even with the the subways and LIRR close by, you know that there will always be people who opt for the privacy of a personal vehicle.
it is a pretty cool logo, very simple, very old school looking. Definitely going to have to get some of that gear before going to a game or two next season.
