My husband and I have both been offered jobs in NYC. We are both due to start work at the end of July. We are flying over on May 22nd to get settled in and start looking for an apartment.
We have somewhere to stay when we first get there as my brother in law has an apartment there that we can stay in, so for the first couple of months we will be living in the West Village. We want to get our own place as soon as possible, so we have been researching as much as we can.
We will have a combined salary of $265,000. My H will be working in the Financial District and I will be working in SoHo.
We also have money in savings which could pay for the first years rent.
We ideally want somewhere kind of inbetween the two for easy access to work, we have a budget of $6000 for our home. We would like a 2 bed if possible, but 1 bed is fine if thats all we can get.
We are leaning towards West Village/Chelsea/SoHo/TriBeCa.
I would like to walk to work in under 30mins, and H would either take the subway or walk.
My daughter is renting a place in the west 94th street area- very nice- lots of young families seems like a great place to look
