Most of you probably know that the US Open (major tennis event) starts next Monday at Flushing Meadows Park. But did you know that you can watch the Qualifying Event (there are a few spots open for the main draw if you qualify) this week for free? Started today (I saw it with some friends of mine) and lasts until Friday. One of the best deals for a sporting event in town, IMO.

Get out of town! I didn't know about this! So how does it work exactly? The schedule shows only today's matches....

The last 16 spots in the 128-draw main tournament goes to 16 people who win 3 qualifying matches. 128 people start, then 64, then 32, then after the third set of matches there are 16 left.

If you make the main draw, you dont necessarily get a top 16 seed in the first round. Last yr, two qualfiers played each other in the first round.
