I dont know details as I never been there before, I've only heard thru posts on this and from my friends who live in harlem.

What you do is visit them on the weekend and weekday evening, that way you can get an idea of the ghetto level,,but to be honest I'd rather be in Manhattan

There is a project in Brooklyn that is controlled by Haredim (ultra-orthodox jews); don't know the name, but I'm sure someone here will know.

It is very safe - that's a huge plus since you do have a baby and you will be coming home late. Of course many of the residents are Haredim, but there are also some non-Jews living there, as well. If an apartment is available, I would choose this particular project over any other in Brooklyn.
