How many of you remember when the Barclays Center was just a baby (construction wise)? Can you recall when they first broke ground? Remember when it was still hard to picture how it would really look? Well for those who are interested take a look at the huge transformation from the beginning.
I haven't been to that area in ages, only to 55 Hanson Place (NYS income tax help official office, but it got slashed due to state budget cuts) but I was worried for newbies who moved to the area unaware of the Barclays Center and any noise issues. Were there any noise issues? Interesting to see the MTA gave it station signage
I remember when this whole area looked very similar to the first picture, there was nothing out here but empty lots and decayed buildings back mid 80s. Was to young and probably to dangerous to have thought to take pictures or even stupid to take pictures of the ugly landscape.
Someday soon, you'll be writing the thread "Remember when it didn't take you a a half-hour to drive on 4th Ave. from Butler Street to Atlantic Avenue?"

All I can say it was along battle between Ratner vs residents of the area. I guess a new sports arena will help speed il the process of an already gentrified area. I remember when the area used to be a dump.

Well technically MTA didn't give them the station signage they're paying for it. $4 million for 20 Years (200K for each year).
And supposedly there were noise issues mostly during the early stages (I believe) but since have been resolved.

Lol I don't drive but that's probably going to be the case only on game nights. 4th Ave seems to always have mass crowds already though. But yesterday there was a meeting regarding the parking and transit improvements for the area on game nights and major events. So hopefully the traffic will improve or stay the same (which is already horrible).
I can only imagine NCAA college basketball games being held at the new arena is Brooklyn. It will generate a lot of revenue amongst many Transplants who live in the area surrounding the Arena. It will be a mad house.
Hockey 14,500 (The Islanders are stuck with a lease that will keep them at the decrepit Nassau Coliseum until 2015 Lol!)
Concerts 19,000 (Jay-Z will open the new arena on September 28)
Impressive, altough I'm not usually an advocate for new construction. (Seating bowl modeled after Staples Center in LA)
