I've just moved into the city two weeks ago to start a new job. I'm living in Brooklyn with family for the time being until I get my own place with roomies. I haven't been able to explore the city because I only came into the city with so much much money. However, I finally get a paycheck on Friday and I'm finally going to explore the city. I was wondering how I could go about making new friends in such a big city? I just graduated college and I'm 23 years old. Any helpful advice would be great!

I would start looking for events that are related to your interests and going to them. You will naturally meet people who have the same interests. There are also interest groups that have meetups that you could join.

The best way to meet people is either through other friends, or through similar hobbies/interests.

Are you looking for male or female company? Or a little bit of both?

I suggest joining clubs or taking classes to find people with mutual interests.

Keep in mind that you can start by exploring on your own.

But you can:
1. Invite someone from work to join you at lunch...or for a drink...or for a movie.
2. See if there are other alumni from your school here.
3. Start looking for any kind of group or activity that might appeal to you - might be a church group, or a class, or a book club, or a gym, or a political volunteer situation. Maybe something that's connected to your job/career?

And keep in mind that there are a lot of free or almost-free events in the summer. Leaf through things like the Village Voice and Time Out.

And welcome to NYC!
