Very random, but I'm meeting friends at Sakagura tonight! I've never been before but they rave about it.

Been going to Katz's since the late 80's, nothing to write home about but it's still good if you can deal with the unfreakinbelievable amount of tourist's that descend upon the place at lunch, lines literally around the corner then back up Ludlow. It's actually pretty funny watching them walk around Houston looking so lost and out of place, they get their lunch on and then promptly head back uptown.

I believe the Japanese place was featured on Anthony Bourdains show. It's in an office building.

You will love it !

Agree with others about Katz's.
It was always quite crowded, in the past people from Bowery hotels and locals, now all tourists.
I have found it expensive in recent years for what you get.

I tried Katz a few days ago. It is good but its only good while the meat is still warm. Once it cools down, its not as good. I tried the pastrami and now I wanna try the corn beef.

in 1997 there was a deli restaurant very similar to the Carnegie (but no lines and far quieter) on 6th Avenue somewhere between 55th and 57th street but it closed. Not Wolf's, they closed in 1996. does anyone remember the name?

also in 1995 I recalled having dinner at a similar place on Lexington and 52nd street. is it still there?

That was THE STAGE DELI, closed last year. I loved the place even with $18 sandwiches (the size of your head.) It was very comfortable dining with food and prices very comparable, or IDENTICAL, to the Carnegie madhouse.

(Never noticed a deli-restaurant at 52nd and Lex.)
