It's just something i've been noticing lately. Been looking at some demographic charts and in NYC and it's five boroughs the white population is around half of what it was 60 years ago. In 1950 Asians represented 0.27% of the population. Today almost 13% and growing every year. Hispanics were 1.62% of the population in 1940, and today represent just under 30% of the total population. Blacks were 9.47 in 1950 and today 26% and have sligtly declined over the past few years. I understand from post WW2 many non white immigrants started to come to NYC. Just wondering why this has happened? I mean many cultural Italian and Irish neighborhoods have been obsorbed into Asian and Hispanic neighborhoods and there are now not many left.
You could ask the same thing about the 60 years before that...WASPs, Germans and Scandinavians replaced by Irish, Italians, and Jews. It's always in flux.
White flight. Once the neighborhood shows signs of "going downhill", many of the traditional majority ethnic group flee for somewhere less diverse. To some extent, it's racism, but on the other hand, nobody wants crime or lower property value where their children are growing up. Plus, people like being around their own "kind"... and once thoroughly Americanized enough, they cease to identify as strongly with their ethnicity, so it becomes only natural that they branch out.
When I was a kid growing up in BK, it was often said that Italians came to Brooklyn, then they/their families wound up in Staten Island, then leaving SI for Jersey, before finally winding up in Florida. To some extent it's still true today.
Most of my family left Sheepshead Bay when the Russians came in. All of my family left Canarsie when the blacks came in. We received death threats from Italian neighbors in the early 90s for being seen with black people in our house, because the neighbors thought we might be the one to sell out to blockbusters.
If you look at 1940-to-today, the Great Migration led blacks from mostly being rural dwellers in the South to a huge percentage in nearly every city in the country. It's not just New York. In fact, they're a higher percentage in most other cities. So the answer to that question is simple enough.
I don't know why Puerto Ricans and Dominicans chose New York over cities that were closer to their homelands, though.
It's because the white race is dying out.In another 60 years it will only be about 30% of the US population.
Whites left the city in droves in the 70s and again in the 90s. Now, there's a new crop. Immigrants (Hispanic and Asian) are growing. Black/African Americans aren't coming and many have left. West Indians are still coming.

White natives left, but Eastern Euros came in massive numbers after the fall of communism. Not just Brooklyn. There's tons of Russians in Staten Island, Albanians in the Bronx, etc.
White people do not produce like their ancestors. Look at Europe and the changes. Europe will be dominated by muslims.

Back to the OP: Unlike any other major city in US, NY occupies a special place. It is at the front. Every social change affects NY first. It has been so for 200+ years.

Your right but a lot of Muslims are like the Central Americans and Mexican day laborers in this country. Do you remember the French Govt. actually offering French couples Euro's to reproduce? America is heading down the same path. Belgium will be a Muslim nation in no time. Read what's going on in that country.
