Maybe you are right. I was scratching my head trying to figure out why is he replying to ohiogirl22, when
she was clearly talking to the OP of this thread. For this good catch, some subway pole does deserved to
be licked more than others. A lick is certainly better than a rep!
he should have seen the trains in the 70's. the 7th Avenue lines(the 2-3 lines especially) were called the "muggers express" and the "wild west" lines due to gang rampages on the trains. the 42 street/8 Av station was the most intimidating. you can't even compare that to today. of course the subways will appear "ghetto"--it's only $2.50 per ride. Atlanta's MARTA trains are much cleaner, no odors (fare is the same i believe) but it still can appear "ghetto" in some places--its a public transit system
Marta, or that b*tch Martha as I not so affectionately call her, is also nowhere near as reliable nor does its rail system even begin to compare to the thoroughness and efficiency of NYC's subway. So I guess it would make sense it is as clean, heck it better be.
Makes no sense. And then when the N or E gets to the end it doesn't sit there. It turns around and gets back to Manhattan without the MTA stopping to clean it up.
I have actual and current experience with the E at the end of the line at Jamaica Center. It either goes to the storage yard for a complete cleaning, or it stays at the platform for a few minutes before reversing and going back out, and while it is there, cleaners go on it with brooms and large dustbins and sweep up any garbage they might find on the floors and pick up the trash/newspapers on the seats. In my experience, the E train does not get that dirty and most people are not pigs and take their trash with them and put it in the many, many trash cans that literally line the station platforms.
Funny, from your title line, I thought you were gong to tell us some dramatic tale of being assaulted. I went through a period of many years when I didn't use the subway due to being kind of traumatized by the crowding. But I finally started occasionally, and it seems much better.
However, part of the problem is that no matter how furious you are, I'm betting that although you're ranting here and to your friends, you didn't bother to sit down and write a letter to the MTA, the mayor, the city council, or even the Straphangers.
i was coming up the stairs at Fulton St and there was an empty cigarette carton pressed against a dead mouse in the vertical position against the stair. totally gross. youd never see that on MARTA but youre right MARTA is nowhere near as complex as NY City transit
MARTA is like half subway- half commuter train. the trains resemble the A and F and D trains (those "nicer" insides with the quieter rides and wider bodies) here in NY but the stations are more deluxe and of course cleaner, so they resemble Metro North stations

There's a big downside to using the MARTA system instead of NYCT though ... you have to live in Atlanta.
i often visit Atlanta so i often ride MARTA when im there.
