I currently live in Boston and I am in a creative field. I'm in need of a shake-up I think,
and what better a place than NY for some like myself? I love the international flair, the culture, ect.
I think I would enjoy living there for a few years, but long term I don't think so, (couldn't picture my kids with an NY accent either, hah!).

I'm in my late 20s now and single. Do you think it would make sense for me to go there for a bit and then
move back or somewhere else? What if I meet someone who doesn't want to move? hmm

Are you saying you couldn't picture your future kids or do you have kids now?

There isn't really enough info in your OP. What would you do for money? Is there a job you'd have to quit in Boston? New job lined up in NY?

I'll never understand why people come on here and ask total strangers such major questions! We don't know you, so how do you expect us to advise you on this.

Does it make sense for you to live in NYC for a couple of years and move back? Well, yes, if you want to. But it also would make sense for you to move to Paris for a couple of years and move back. Or Berlin. Or Rome. Or Rio. Or Houston.

This is something you have to decide for yourself.

If you aren't happy where you are now than move. But if you do move here or else where come into it with your heart open and don't plan to move away in a few years. Plan to move, enjoy where you live and take it for there.

id have to quit a job, and i would need a job. fast. i'm confident i could get one in NY fast. Other places not so much.
But its also that nyc is the pinnacles for all things artistic. I guess my point is, do alot of people move to ny for the short term for this reason?

Why not? A lot of people do it. It takes a few months to adjust but after that you should find out pretty quickly whether you enjoy it here or not.

Yeah, it makes sense. Assuming you are straight and single from your post, you really wouldn't want to raise a family here, especially on an artist type income.

Only thing is, at your age (I'm 30 so can relate) you're getting past that stage in life where you don't mind living like you're in a third world country, eg 3 roommates in a 2 br 'converted' apartment in a 17 story walk up. And while you may be able to find employment, not sure what the income in your field may be
