Here is a collection of images of the 46th precinct in the 1980's. Very moving stuff. The precinct was the busiest in the city and averaged one homicide every 4-5 days. The photographer lived the precinct day in and day out as he accompanied the cops on patrol. For those who do not know, the precinct encompasses the University Heights, Morris Heights, Tremont, and Fordham neighborhoods. It's borders are roughly Fordham road to the north (W 183rd west of Jerome), Webster ave to the east, the Cross Bronx to the south, and the Harlem river to the west. It's an interesting area because it's not quite the south Bronx, but in many regards, an argument can be made that it was a worse area. Historically, one of heaviest drug precincts in the city.
