Some were here even earlier, my maternal grandmother's family came to NYC from PR quite early in the 20th century - my grandmother was born in NYC in 1921 and grew up in the Puerto Rican ghetto on the UWS where Lincoln Center is now.

Was driving around bushwick today while picking up my Dominican friend and I can safely say bushwick is still largely Puerto Rican. My Dominican friend said the area still has way more Ricans then Dominicans.

Didn't know many west Africans live in Ct. I was expecting you would say Philly.

I tend to forget about the Nigerians who live in DC. Lots of East Africans though Ethiopians.

These parades are sponsored and organized by the community associated with it. There is no special treatment here

The first group of Puerto Ricans to arrive to New York City was back in 1898 after the Spanish-American war.
