Hello there,

Does anyone know where I can rent a Jet Ski in the east or hudson river? I've always wanted to Jet Ski around manhattan -- I've measured the distance, it's a 27 mile loop or so.

Has anyone done it? Is it legal? crazy? any potential hazards to watch out for?

I think they will take you on a tour all the way around if you take one of their guys with them. They just don't want you to run out of gas. You'll have to refuel somewhere.

The Hudson and into the harbor a bit is probably OK, but going over into the East River is probably a no go, the currents on that side are quite wicked.

There are jet skis in the harbor all the time. There are one or two jet ski companies that give you a tour around New York bay.

Shockingly enough, yes; the water is mostly safe to swim from Yonkers on down. As long as it hasn't rained hard enough to cause sewage overflow.
