Hi all!
I am in the 80/20 program. Do any of you know if it is ok for me to add my gf as an occupant to my lease? I just got my apartment 6 months ago. I have been dating my gf for a few years now and I feel like it is time for me to make the next move. I am thinking of asking her to marry me but before that I know that I need to make sure she can live with me before we take the step. Has anyone had this experience? I don't find anything on my lease. I don't want to go to the landlord without getting some experienced feedback. Thanks!
Well when you got into the apt im sure you were told it was because of your annual income. Now if you're going to included someone else their salary will have to be included with yours to determine if you will still qualify.
I think I must disagree.
I believe that once you are in, you are in. You do not have to remain "poor" forever and certainly no City or State agency can tell you that you cannot live with or marry someone.
Perhaps there might be some sort of surcharge system with increasing income but I would be shocked if dgreen could lose his affordable apartment.
But I cannot find chapter and verse for the specifics.

Usually you will just get a surcharge if you and your gf's income reach past the income limit. Now you just gotta ask yourself is it worth it to put her on the lease and get a increase in your rent unless of course both of your income fits the limit.
I would not tell anyone. Who you date is no ones business and if you rent is dirt cheap then leave it as is. Use both your incomes to save as much money as you can and if you were to marry then notify them at that point only when they ask. I am guessing they ask you for your tax return on an annual basis.
I am not sure what you mean 80/20 and i am not sure how much you are paying or if 80/20 is section 8. I am sure NYC wants you to excel and do well and make money. I am sure they will adjust your rent when they find out you are married, but it will never go up 2K. It'll be adjusted accordingly to accommodate both of your incomes which i am sure is feasible. While you can, stay as cheap in rent as you can.
Co-habitating with someone is no one's business.
