I take home about 61 cents of every dollar I make. 3% of my wages go to union dues, and 10% go to a retirement plan, so there's 13% off the top that you may not have to worry about. Keep in mind that I pay nothing for healthcare, which may be a significant cost to you, though.
Again, please excuse my ignorance of the payment system in the USA. From where I come from, the "salary" advertised is the monthly salary that we actually receive after all the reductions that are made. I will discuss this topic thoroughly with the people at the Met.
