Hello everyone.

I always visit this forum but finally signed up today.

Judging by my budget, and tips from my friends, it looks like when I move to NY this Spring I will have to choose between : Parkchester or Striver's Row.

I am a 26 y/o F who will be living alone. Will be attending Makeup School in SOHO and will be working in Manhattan. *I'm mentioning this so you will be aware of my commute*

I have asked my NY friends for help, but they are all biased to where THEY live. I guess thats like most people lol, but I have noticed that most of you give honest opinions.

I also wanted to say that I think it's really nice the way you all help people with your suggestions. It is much appreciated.

ps if you'd like to suggest any other areas that is great. I just tried to narrow it down to these 2 so I didn't harass you all too much. I just need something under $1800 a month with a relatively easy commute to Manhattan. Thanks!!

well first you have to determine what you need out of your community: amenities, safety, commuting time, etc. then the board members will be able to advise you.

Parkchester to SOHO is a LONG way...and based on that budget...you can live someone closer AND better. Parkchester is fine and has plenty of amenities, but it is a ways to Soho.

Thanks Guy. I had NO idea how far SOHO was from Parkchester. Makeup School is only a few months, but I would be irritated daily with the commute.

And to Seventh...
Safety is important. I don't intend on Sex and the City living, but I don't want to fall asleep to gunshots either. Commuting time, less than 25 mins if possible.

Striver's row is really nice. It's a pretty small strip of Harlem, and it can be pretty hard to land a place there. How did you come about that, if you don't mind me asking?

Parkchester can be a rough commute to Manhattan if you do not work around the green train lines (4/5/6). Plus those trains are ridiculously crowded in the mornings. Not a pleasant experience.

Thx Noo.
I've been talking to a company who handles apartments in Striver's Row and they said they will have openings around April. But I will keep my eyes open for other options in that area just in case.

Yeah Seventh. I've been reading up on Striver's Row a lot and love the rich history.
