Hello!

This evening, I am preparing to drive a UHaul van from:

230 West 230th Street Bronx NY to 52nd St and 9th Avenue

then

52nd St and 9th Avenue to 100 IKEA Dr. Paramus, NJ 07652

then

100 IKEA Dr. Paramus, NJ 07652 to 230 West 230th Street Bronx NY

I understand that you can not take a commercial vehicle (eg a Uhaul van) on parkways. I'm guessing this completely rules out the West Side Highway (aka Henry Hudson Parkway), but perhaps only segments of the WSH.

Can a savvy NYC driver let me know what routes they'd recommend?

Many thanks!

The Henry Hudson above 59th Street, elevated portion of the Parkway, has truck restrictions, so you would not want to use any stretch of it for your destination. You could take The Deegan, to the 3rd Avenue Bridge, then take one of the streets in the 120s west to Amsterdam, then take Morningside which turns into Columbus, which turns into 9th Avenue. You could also take the Madison Avenue Bridge which puts you in the 130s and then a western avenue south through Harlem to get to Columbus to 9th.

You could also skip The Deegan and just take Broadway through Upper Manhattan, transitioning east to get to Columbus before you get into the slower traffic on the UWS on Broadway.

Your other option is Riverside Drive, which avoids much of the traffic and many of the lights. You would have to take Broadway to 181st, then west to Riverside Drive, and then head east at 72nd Street to get to West End Avenue to avoid Lincoln Center and Columbus Circle, and then approach your destination from 9th by heading east in the mid-50s.

You can then use the Lincoln Tunnel to get to New Jersey. On the return trip, just use the George Washington Bridge to The Deegan to get to the 230th Street exit.
