Does anyone frequently use any of the auto shops on the Jerome Ave corridor? Any that are very reliable? Any that should be avoided?

Thanks!

I don't know about Jerome Avenue shops.....but I have nothing but disdain for Webster Avenue auto shops from previous experiences.

The Bronx is the only borough without any vehicular traffic. Why so many autoshops?

95% are no good. Best place for illegal car inspection stickers though. LOL.

But, no. Seriously, stay away, unless someone has a connection with one of the mechanics there, you will get ransacked.

A typical Bronx resident usually goes to sears auto on Fordham road. I'm not sure of that location exist anymore since sears moved out of the borough.

Trust me man that is absolutely not typical. Believe it or not those sketchy Hispanic owned auto shops get a ton of business. And that's because of Sears Auto and dealerships being absolute rip offs. I would smack any of my friends over their head if they were to take their car into Sears Auto.

I've been driving here for a while so I'd say the best way to make your choices is to do research. Research your car parts, your car manual. Look up the prices online and typical mechanic manual labor charge per hr. Then you price shop private owned auto shops and see who gives you the better deal. Don't give in to convenience and pay a dealer $500 over the typical price because you think their store decor is nice and shiny. All cars goes to **** if its not new in NYC anyway.

I used a mechanic there and a tire shop because they were recommended by a local friend. The prices were much more reasonable that what I've been charged elsewhere for less work. As for the quality of the job, I'm not a big car guy so we will have to see how it works out in the future.

For example one time in the past, I had to replace a broken car window. An auto shop in Stamford CT (near where I work) wanted $300 and said it would take all day. The auto glass shop I went to on Jerome charged me $75 and did the job in 45 minutes.
