Hello all, I really need advice. I was working as a temporary employee, in a position I was ok with, at a school I really liked, but was then offered a permanent full-time position, at another school doing exactly what I studied to do... It seemed as if I finally landed my dream job. So I gave notice to my temporary assignment and skipped into the sunset. Fast forward three weeks later, the position is NOTHING that was told to me. I was told I would be doing behavior intervention, counseling students and pushing in classrooms, but instead I'm covering three lunch periods, busting & cleaning lunch tables, asked to re-direct traffic for school buses, taking several trips up three flight of stairs carrying boxes, making purchase orders, sitting in teaching professional development meetings instead of counseling professional development meetings, and a laundry list of other non-counseling duties. I feel like a school-aide w/ a HS diploma & not a trained counselor w/ a masters degree. And if you think its a small school & everyone has to do a little more, PLEASE DONT! There are plenty of school aides who could handle these tasks, it's like I'm pledging a sorority & being hazed. If I quit will I receive unemployment benefits until I find an APPROPRIATE position at a place that doesn't play childish games ?

Probably not.

So I don't have good cause even though I was not given the job I applied for, even after I spoke about the issue with my direct supervisor ? I would have never accepted a position as a school aide

You know you have to be working at a job for some time before collecting unemployment correct?

Seems like this board has a lot of threads started by people who make bad decisions and then want to somehow be compensated for the consequences of their bad judgment and decisions.

The unemployment office is about as tight with their money as Fort Knox. Even if your boss is a controlling megalomaniac who gives you stress ulcers they won't sympathize with you quitting since it was on you and will probably deny your claim. Find something else first and then quit.

The op sounds like a bait and switch tactic by a scummy employer. It's not really fair to label it a bad choice when they were employed under false pretenses.
