You could take metro north to 125th street and then take the 6 to the Hunter College stop, then walk. Probably about an hour to and hour & twenty minutes I would guess.
I'm willing to bet you could actually do it in slightly under an hour. I know the express trains from White Plains to Grand Central are like 35 minutes, so they should be about 28-30 if you're getting off at 125th street. That's not counting however much time it takes you to get from your home to the train station, though.
It can get expensive, though. An unlimited monthly Metro-North pass from White Plains to GCT I believe is $300, so either the same or maybe a few bucks less to get off at 125th Street, but then you also need to tack on another $116 a month for an unlimited metro card for the subway.

There's no way its $300. More like $250 - 260. And even cheaper if your employer has a transit benefit program.

That bad? I would think it would be less. He's going with rush hour. The longest part is the walk. If I were doing that commute regularly I'd invest in a folding bike. If your in decent enough shape you might even be able to do the ride from 125 to 70th and York.
Harlem and Grand Central are the same fate schedule, currently $259 a month.

that's not a terrible idea either and one i never even thought of
Or just rent a parking spot at end of the four line and take the subway. A lot quicker and cheaper.
