So today I was off and had nothing to do, so I decided to go to some areas in The Bronx that I have never been to before. With the exception of City Island, most of the areas of the Bronx I have been to are bad areas, and I wanted to see the boroughs better neighborhoods. I drove through the Whitestone Bridge and accidentally got on the Cross Bronx Expressway when I was suppose to stay on the Hutchinson, and got off at the Castle Hill Avenue exit. I stayed on the service road until I reached Westchester Avenue, and saw Metropolitan Avenue, and decided to drive through Metropolitan Ave to get to Morris Park.
Parkchester-The first thing I noticed about this area is that it's extremely diverse, reminds me a lot of Jackson Heights in Queens. I saw a good mix of Blacks, Hispanics, and South Asians in the area. I felt very comforable in this area though, didn't see any ghetto thug types, just normal people going about their buisness. I feel a lot safer now if I ever decide to take the Q44 and get off here. Area itself was pretty clean too.
Morris Park-The main reason why I went to the Bronx, I wanted to see how this area compared to Brooklyns Bensonhurst as far as Italian neighborhoods go. When I first went to Bensonhurst years ago, I was pretty disappointed considering the area isn't as Italian as everyone claims it is. Morris Park however, actually surpassed my expectations. You can't go more then a minute driving through here and not see Italian flag colors. On the street lights, signs, hydraints, and even some portions of the street themselves, there everywhere. The 2 main commercial strips [Morris Park Avenue, and Williamsbridge Road] Road] have plenty of Italian delis, bakerys, pizzarias, restaurants etc. The neighborhood seemed very safe and clean, I would easily put it up there with Middle Village and Forest Hills here in Queens. I especially love the section east of Williamsbridge Road, those houses are gorgeous. I will definitely come back here once I get a new camera.
Pelham Parkway/Pelham Gardens-Another very nice area, I drove down Astor Avenue between Eastchester Road to the end [East], seemed like a very peaceful, and very diverse area. I saw Albanians, Hispanics, Jamaicans etc. Not many people were walking around though, beautiful homes especially in Pelham Gardens.
Pelham Bay-I gotta admit, I though this area would be a bit more attractive then it actually was. Still a decent neighborhood that seemed very safe, I saw mostly white people but also a decent amount of hispanics and even some blacks. I mainly drove down Westchester Avenue, then Crosby Avenue. I didn't get the chance to explore Country Club or Throgs Neck though. I was in Westchester Square for a bit though, area didn't look that great but not terrible.
Southeast is probably not the term you were looking for to describe all of these areas.
True, I should of just posted "East Bronx". I totally forgot that Pelham Parkway is almost right in the center of the borough. Southeast would be more like Throgs Neck, which I didn't go to.

I was in Parkchester the other day, see my Arthur Avenue thread and had the same impression of it as you did.
When you were in Morris Park did you go to any of the pizza places or Italian places?
tho we aren't Italian, my dad grew up in Bensonhurst. 67th street and 18th Avenue. Do you see a resemblance with B'hurst and Morris Pk?
Yes and no, Morris Park seemed like the more Italian area of the two, Italian buisnesses still dominated the neighborhood unlike Bensonhurst where it seems like theres a near even mix of Italian and Chinese places nowadays. Morris Park is also a lot more suburban in character, but Morris Park Avenue did remind me of 18 Avenue in some ways.
But then again I don't have any biz there, except sometimes concerts in MSG.
So that's why.
