does the N and Q subway lines run overnight weekdays and weekends between Queensboro Plaza and Astoria/Ditmars Blvd ? If not, when does the service stop ? I read the MTA schedule and I'm now more confused than ever . TIA

The N train runs to Astoria at all times. The Q runs to Astoria weekdays from 5/6 am until 11pm/midnight. Sometimes the Q will be extended to Astoria on the weekends, you have to look out for weekend service announcements to see what weekends the Q will be extended. When there is track work being done on the Astoria line, sometimes the trains will run express in one direction between Queensboro Plaza and Adtoria Blvd. you have to take the local train in the reverse direction to reach any local stops skipped.

The N train runs all the time. If you look at the schedule you will see trains arriving Ditmars all night long like 3:21 am, 3:41 am etc. including on Saturday and Sunday http://web.mta.info/nyct/service/pdf/tncur.pdf

The Q doesn't run all the time to Ditmars. If you check the schedule you will see the last train arriving Ditmars around 11:30 pm on a weekday http://web.mta.info/nyct/service/pdf/tqcur.pdf and starting running from Ditmars around 6 am. On weekends the Q doesn't run at all to Ditmars. However, sometimes when there are track changes, they might make an exception and run it on a weekend (only occasionally though).
