I am a new homeowner. I moved into a coop last February, applied for the STAR rebate and was approved starting June 1.

My coop management office has given me no credit thus far, and my attempts to reach out basically end up going to the contact's voicemail and I get no response.

Does anyone know normally how long it takes for the STAR rebate to take effect? And could you explain in your case how you received credit or rebate for it?

Thank you

The city Dept of Finance bills for property tax. If the mortgage company is paying the tax you don't get the bill but you should get a notice of property value that lists your property assessments and exemptions, whether they are star, veterans, etc. Mine just came 2 weeks ago for the 2016/2017 tax year.
Go to the Dept of Finance website and look up your property. You can see if your exemption went through and check the record of tax bills for your property.

The coop usually passes on the Star.
They typically get the annual list in January for distribution that year. The ones that went out last month reflect sales through Jan 5th 2016 so your name would not be reflected on that roll until next year

I think I read something like you need to get your application in by March to qualify for the current year. (Don't hold me to this.)
There was a large time lag for us before we saw any credit (Co-op,)... more than a year.
