To be fair, I also saw a guy doing that in Koreatown around 4 PM in plain sight during the day, so it's not just places like East New York.

Thats from May of last year, just before this was this purchase which is more telling that the big players have been making moves and will always know whats coming before we do.

Gentrification has started in East NY The Bronx is becoming refugees for price out BK and Queens residents that will raise Bronx prices.

BROOKLYN - Residents rallied Thursday to protest Mayor Bill de Blasio's rezoning plan for East New York.

Dozens of protesters, who gathered at Pennsylvania and Atlantic avenues, say de Blasio's plan doesn't guarantee enough affordable housing.

They say that ever since the mayor announced his plan, landlords have pressured them to pay higher rent or move out.

The mayor's plan requires a percentage of those units to be set aside for affordable housing, but the protesters question the mayor's definition of affordable. They say his guidelines don’t reflect the financial realities of struggling New Yorkers.

Protesters also directed displeasure at the powers of their community boards, whose members they say they want to have a choice in selecting. They also want the boards granted veto power over significant proposals like the redevelopment plan.

Mayor Bill de Blasio's office defended his housing plan, saying that it requires developers to permanently provide affordable housing for the first time.

All these poor people priced out of BK are going to head to the Bronx, probably resulting in more crime.

What gentrifies first, Eastern BK or South BX?

Why is that so difficult for people on this forum to process?

Working class people can't afford Bedstuy and Bushwick, and it wasn't that long ago that Bedstuy was referred to as do or die Bedstuy (one of the worst neighborhoods in the entire city). Yet you have rapid gentrification there and in Bushwick.

There are a lot of new office buildings being built in Downtown Brooklyn and Williamsburg. Brooklyn residents who work in Brooklyn would ultimately live in ENY.

With 10 million people in NYC, NYC has no choice but to further develop job centers and hubs in the outer boroughs and upper Manhattan. In part because the tunnels into Manhattan cannot accommodate any more trains or people, and it would cost fantastic amounts of money to build new ones.
WELL SAID and also you don't have to work and live in Manhattan in order to create something great for you

This is worth a listen if you want to know how the neighborhood changed from mostly White to Black & Puerto Rican within a few years. So far this podcast series has done a great job of explaining gentrifications and what ENY is facing.
