I am looking at an apartment. It is quite close to an (elevated) subway line in Brooklyn.
I noticed that while inside the apartment, the subway wasn't that loud going by.
If you stop and think about it, you can hear a light rumble.

How do people feel about living somewhere where you can hear the subway from your apartment (or see the subway).

On the one hand, it feels very "New York City" to me, which I kind of like.
Living in Brooklyn, but hearing and seeing the subway from the apartment, it reminds you that you're only a subway ride away from Manhattan...

How do other people feel about this?

I live about 1 and 1/2 blocks from the subway and can hear it when the windows are open. I love hearing it, especially at night when it is a little more noticeable but never annoying. There is something comforting about it. Can't explain.

I agree. I actually hear it very faintly from my current apartment and also find it comforting, especially at night.
I can't figure out why that is! But it is somehow comforting

I'm half a block from the elevated train and something about it puts me at ease.

i used to live about one block from 176th line on the 4 train.. I could hear " please stand clear of closing doors" . When i first moved in, i couldn't sleep in the bedroom which faced the station.. i got over it.. lived there over 13 years.

The A train is a block away from my house. I see and hear it all the time from my living room window. One of my requirements was actually living close to an elevated line - when I saw my apartment I knew I had to close instantly.

The Bronx is good for that - no way you can live in the Bronx and not have strong legs lol
