Traveling to NYC from Maine and looking for a decent hotel on the outskirts of NYC. ( Preferably no more than a 30 minute drive) Any suggestions. Looking for something reasonably priced ( cheaper than you would find in city) and something that will allow relatively easy access to the city . 1st time travelling there. Your suggestions are welcomed.
I suggest you look in either Long Island City in Queens (just across the East River from Midtown Manhattan) or in New Jersey (just across the Hudson River from Manhattan).
If you are planning in driving into NYC, be aware that parking can really add up. Depending on where you're going, of course. Manhattan will probably be most expensive. So you might want to look for a hotel outside the city with free or cheap parking and take public transportation in, if possible.

jersey city, nj, it's right over the hudson river. can take the path train into the city, at the new world trade center station, it's a 10 minute ride. or if driving take the holland tunnel 15-30min depending on traffic.
hotels.com, airbnb, vrbo.com, groupon, living social..
airbnb and vrbo are actually illegal to use in NYC.
The OP also needs to let us know what they consider to be reasonably priced. Some might say 100 is, others might say 200. It's a big difference and will give us a better chance to give suggestions.
Like others have said Long Island City and NJ will be your best bets, and you won't have to drive into the city. In fact I would advise against it.
