Obviously De Blasio treats people differently based on their personal choices. I thought liberals were open minded and tolerant???
I am not sure if they were ever open-minded or tolerant, but today it is obvious that the Progressive movement brooks no dissent and seeks to punish those who disagree. The threat to free speech now comes from the political Left, which is ironic considering that the New Left movement began as a Free Speech Movement in the 1960's under people such as Mario Savio.
The Progressive movement routinely uses intimidation, social humiliation, reputation destruction, accusations of racism, and sometimes even physical force to promote their world view and ensure that everyone marches in intellectual lockstep.
I predict that within our lifetimes Progressives will push through some form of government-enforced censorship. They have already created a sort of de facto censorship in places such as universities.

The reference to leftists being open-minded/tolerant was tongue-in-cheek. That group is the least tolerant of all and will stop at nothing (including government force) to get their way or silence those they oppose. You're correct about de facto censorship but, if I recall, the DOJ/AG Lynch announced (before walking back) prosecuting those who speak unfavorably about Islam so we've already reached the outcome you're fearing.

But Bloomberg was a dictator, too. You should bring back Giuliani.
Giuliana is overrated. He benefited from nationwide trends and his biggest claim to fame is 9/11. He was a good mayor but nothing extraordinary.
Bloomberg may have seemed dictatorial at times but that's because he got what made this city tick, its ills, and actually tried to fix things. He went after (or tried to) the teachers union, the FDNY, and in a roundabout way, medicare spending (large soda ban).
When history looks back, Bloomberg will emerge as probably the best mayor in modern NYC history. He's just a very smart guy who's practical. Can't go wrong with that.
This Mayor is such a freaking P U S S Y. Seriously, every Mayor of NYC should be Republican, and this is coming from someone who leans more to the left. Democrats are the biggest wimps and biggest enablers of crappy character.
With the very notable exception of John Lindsay (who switched to a democrat midway thru his tenure), NYC has done far better under republican mayors than democratic ones
