The worst subway station has to be Chambers Street on the J line.
Looks like something from a apocalyptic era
There is no subway station underground or above that comes even close.
The crazy part is you would think it being right by City Hall it would be in better shape..
The Sea Beach section of the N line in Brooklyn was/is (they're rebuilding Manhattan bound platforms now) absolutely grotesque. Im talking from 8th ave to 86th St. Broken stair cases, peeling paint, leaks and cracks everywhere.
Mainly referring to the underground stations since outdoor stations are easier to keep clean, mother nature helps out with that. I've been to all 400-something stations and by far the Grand Concourse line (B/D) in the Bronx takes the cake for the dirtiest stations. From 155th all the way to 205th-Norwood nearly every station looks disgusting. 161th and Kingsbridge maybe the only exceptions. Second place goes to the Manhattan J/Z train stops from Bowery to Chambers.
Maybe they've been fixed but I seem to remember there being a lot of outdoor stations in brooklyn that looked like a strong wind would make them come tumbling down.

Usually a little less busy it also looks old as heck.

I agree, was going to mention this myself. The crumbling, dirty walls look like something from a Mad Max film.
NYC is addictive, it's something about it. I'm not even from here originally but damn I love NY, especially the Bronx.
I feel the same way, so many facets of the city I find interesting. Even little things like the street signs/stop lights have a neat, uniquely NYC look to them.

There are a couple of places along the line where the concrete roof above the platforms had huge gaping holes. I remember seeing a bit chunk of concrete sitting on the platforn. It was getting dangerous. The local politicians had been pushing for this rehab for a while now.
