I am an active senior and I have a section 8 choice voucher. My husband is not a senior yet, and he still wants to work a little longer. I guess our primary concern is safety of the area, and then convenience, and then quality of the house. Could someone share opinions or ideas - should I choose a senior house or and NYCHA project. I would appreciate your advice.
I would recommend you to look for a senior house because at least you don't need to worry too much about your safety. NYCHA project might sounds attractive, but consider the crime committed throughout different project, I wouldn't recommend senior to move into any project, unless is a project that's in good neighborhood, which is very unlikely for you to get.

I would definaitly recomend a senior housing, because it's safe, If you BOTH are at least 62 years old. If your husband are not that age yet, then it's just NYCHA.
Nicest Place I know is on East 93rd St.
Arthur B. Brown and William Brown Gardens ... 132 units of Federally-funded and subsidized housing, on East 93rd Street in Manhattan (sometimes called Yorkville Gardens:

Nice looking, well kept and perfectly safe neighborhood.

Does anyone know about " The Hargrave. It is on 111 West and 71 street"?
I also really appreciate more nice senior housing information!
Thank you in advance!

Why would you go into nycha or senior housing with a Section 8 voucher?
You can apply for a rent stabilized apartment in the open market.
This is the advantage of having a Section 8 voucher, and you will only pay 1/3 of the rent, the government pays the rest.

Not exactly:

Generally, families will pay no more than 40 percent of their adjusted monthly income toward their rent share. NYCHA pays the remaining amount to the owner on the family's behalf

Horrible tiny apartments. Closets almost non-existant. Look elsewhere. Location however, at 71st and Columbus is sublime.
Section 8 and Nycha are 2 different programs.
One can be on Section 8 and have nothing to do with Nycha.
