I knew everyone hated white people, that's just a given.

But at least now I know why.

Obviously plenty of people want to for statements like this to be so commonly made in response to any sentence including "white people" in a remotely negative connotation..

Stop trying to act innocent haha. The reason the above person said that about white people isn't hard to understand. Look at Williamsburg in the 80s. Typical nyc slum, dirty, full of minorities (Hispanics in this case) overall a ****ty neighborhood. It was ****ty because it wasn't being rebuilt and invested in. No new shops, low priority on the city governments radar etc. Then, white people started moving into Williamsburg. Then the city suddenly started allocating resources to it. Then the hispanics had to leave. Thats why he said he hated white people, they run the government so they have an unfair advantage.
Soon people start saying "hey we like the 3 train, Brownsville is cool". White people move there, suddenly the city feels obligated to invest in Brownsville, black people have to move out because although the area gets better stores they don't get better jobs. Then we start seeing threads saying "mid 20s white guy looking for a 1 bdr in the Brownsville area with a budget of $1800." listen, it is what it is I just live my own life, but white people please stop acting innocent and clueless. Yes you have an advantage just by being white so every now and then you'll face some sour comments from minorities who have to fight for crumbs since they dont have an actual stake in the city. They just get pushed around like seaweed at the beach and live in their neighborhoods until they get pushed out by this inevitable process.

Given the commute from Brownsville, wages can't rise high enough to allow that.

Williamsburg was 20 minutes from Wall Street, Brownsville is way out there.

So who lived in Williamsburg pre-gentrification? A lot of it was abandoned, right?

Like Bushwick, a lot of it was industrial, so they turned those buildings into lofts. Aside from that new buildings were put in where older ones once stood or there were empty lots, so it was a mix of things.
