Spain was the gateway into the ocean. He went out to prove a theory. Should we pretend none of this happened?
Exactly. We were taught in school that Columbus did a very brave, and very good thing by "discovering" the new world. It led to the European population of North, and South America, and tremendous progress, and advancement. Yes, there were atrocities. There always is when humans are involved. What did the Bataan death march accomplish other than horror? At least with civilization coming to the New World it brought prosperity, and opportunity for many who would otherwise be stuck in a lower class in Europe.
No but we can ask questions. Why do Italian-Americans think so greatly of Columbus when he wasn't even sailing for Italy though? If Italy was so cool, why didn't he sail for his own country? I'm just asking questions.
Italy would have to still get past Spain to make it happen. They had more interests sailing the other archaic way. Maybe we should just pretend he wasn't Italian.

Why would I pretend that he's not Italian?

He also did some horrible things but not getting into that
After WWII, a lot of street names in Brooklyn were changed from German names.
Rockaway Avenue was formerly Hamburg Avenue, thats one I know off the top of my head
He didnt discover America, so what exactly did he do to get a day named after him?
you keep reading your outdated books and praise Christopher Columbus for the fact that you now have an iPhone or Android, lol
Hamburg ave was Wilson ave in Bushwick.
He sailed the ocean rather than simply hugged the coastline.
But yes, the Japanese technically discovered America. But then the Russians and Mongols slaughtered them, before the Europeans slaughtered the Russians and Mongols.

Civilization coming to the New World??? LMAO so the Alqonquin, Chippewa, Incas, Mayans, etc. did not have any society or structure prior to European influence? Wow, what school did you go to?
Europeans came for resources and thats it
